Cole LOVES our Christmas tree! Unfortunately, that isn't good. When Cole thinks that nobody is watching him, he climbs to the tree and tries to eat the lights. I am ALWAYS watching him, so I stop him before it's too late.
I have been very careful, and have caught him every time. My Husband and I stay firm. We tell him, "Cole don't touch the Christmas tree!" We say this every time and than we redirect him. We show him his toys and he normally plays for awhile. Than all of a sudden you will see him push his toy by the tree. Than you see his little body crawl pass the toy and to the tree. My Hubby and I will get on my hands and knees and look right into his eyes and say the same thing, "Cole don't touch the Christmas tree and it starts all over again.
Is there anything else I can do? I don't want him to choke on ornaments, bite the lights off, or have the tree fall on him. I am hoping that one of these days Cole will get it. Until than I will keep being firm with him.

Pretty much not much else you can do! They grow out of it eventually! You just have to be extra diligent in watching when they're this young! But oh how fun Christmas is when there's little ones around!
So true and I will keep being firm:)
I wish I had some good answer for you, but I think you're doing a good job of redirecting him. Hopefully, he'll get the idea soon!
I remember those days, and we will be in the same position again next year, I am sure! With our kids, on things that are breakable, or on things we don't want them to touch, we always use the phrase, "Mommys prettys." Then showed them their toys and said, "These are Dillons' to play with." It has worked very well with all our kids so far. I am hoping it works again with the last one.
We don't have many things in the house that they can't touch and that we don't share with the kids, so this did work well for us. Once they caught on to that, we were even able to use the phrase at Grandmas house, and friends' houses to prevent some tragic outcomes.
Good luck, I'm sure he will catch on soon!
Hi Sara,
They're right..Cole will grow out of it. And I'm sure sooner than the usual age because you are doing a good job on teaching him.
BTW,
Nice Xmas tree and I love that photo with the silhouette of Cole.
XO
